In the spring of 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, crippling its economy, killing and injuring thousands, and causing a nuclear meltdown that kept my conspiracy theorist friend busy for months. That same week, by coincidence, I had gotten an assignment to explain a natural disaster. I chose volcanoes.
